Because all our baskets are handmade from natural materials there may be some variations in size and colour, try to keep your basket dry as if kept damp it may well deteriorate quicker.
Care advise keep away from direct sunlight to keep the colours bright, if you need to wash your basket handle very gently handwash with cold or warm water adding a mild soap suitable for wool or delicates. To dry gently extract as much water without twisting or wringing the basket this can affect the shape. Dry as you would a wool garment, do not place in tumble dryer.
The sisal is largely grown in Ukambani, harvested and weaved in workshops in Nairobi. Once the sisal is harvested the inner soft leaves are used to make fiber. The baskets are weaved using a spiral method of weaving which starts off as a mat then its weaved going upwards to the desired size. Weaving takes time as the warp and weft sisal threads are crisscrossed to form a pattern for the basket. Basket weaving is essential work and a profitable craft for many skilled workers.
